Twitter: the new CNN

I was listening to This Week in Tech and they were mentioning that the recent election in Iran has propelled Twitter past CNN as the place to follow breaking news. While Iranians were tweeting in real time about the dramatic election, CNN was showing a rerun of Larry King interviewing the guys from the chopper show.

Could we be at the beginning of a big change in the way we get our news?

I would say, yes, we are going a different way for news. I tried checking Twitter (not CNN) right after I heard about Michael Jackson but couldn't get on the site because of traffic. CNN won't go away, but how they broadcast news needs to.
